Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding carriage details

The couple will marry at St. George's Chapel on May 19

| Updated:

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced yet another detail for their upcoming wedding.

The couple have revealed their route and the ornate carriage they’ll travel in during their post-ceremony procession through the streets of Windsor.

Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36, will greet the public in the Ascot Landau carriage, for their procession from St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19.

A statement read: “Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle are very much looking forward to this short journey which they hope will be a memorable moment for everyone who has gathered together in Windsor to enjoy the atmosphere of this special day.”

Kensington Palace announced: “The carriage is one of five Ascot Landaus in the Royal Mews. The carriages are used in official and ceremonial state events, such as Coronations, Royal Weddings and State Visits.

“There will be one horse-drawn carriage in the Carriage Procession from St George’s Chapel, which will take the newly-married couple through Windsor Town returning to Windsor Castle along the Long Walk.”

If the Ascot Landau looks familiar, it’s because two of the carriages were used during the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding, to transport Prince Harry, Pippa Middleton and the flower girls and page boys.

On the official Royal Family website, it was clarified the carriage will be used in “good weather” and if it’s raining, Harry and Meghan will instead travel in the covered Scottish State Coach.

There will be four Windsor Grey Horses pulling the carriage, called Milford Haven, Sir Basil, Tyrone and Storm, while a further two – Plymouth and Londonderry – will be outriders.

Harry and former TV actress Meghan will tie the knot at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle at midday on May 19.

They will then undertake the carriage procession through Windsor Town before returning to Windsor Castle for an afternoon reception.

A further evening reception, hosted by Harry’s dad, Prince Charles, will follow.

Last week, it was confirmed Harry has asked big brother William to be his best man.

Harry served as William’s best man when he wed Kate Middleton in 2011.

There’s still no word on who will serve as Meghan’s bridesmaids, or confirmation that William and Kate’s children George, four, and Charlotte, two, will be page boy and flower girl.

It’s also unclear whether Louis, born on April 23, will be in attendance.

Harry and Meghan have asked for charity donations in lieu of gifts, will have a lemon and elderflower flavoured cake, with buttercream icing and decorated with fresh flowers, and florist Philippa Craddock will decorate the venues.

More than 250 members of the Armed Forces will provide ceremonial support on the big day, in a nod to Harry’s military background, while a full list of music for the ceremony has also been confirmed.
