Prince George surprised a stranger by revealing his ‘secret nickname’, according to a newspaper report.

The future King is believed to have been out for a stroll with grandmother Carole Middleton and little sister Princess Charlotte in Berkshire when he apparently told a whopper with “a big smile on his face”.

According to The Sun, a dog walker spotted the youngsters playing in a stream and they got chatting while George petted her pooch.

The unnamed person is quoted as telling the newspaper: “I was asked by a police minder not to take a photo of the children, which I didn’t, but George started stroking my dog.

“Just to be friendly I engaged in a bit of small talk and I asked George what his name was, even though obviously I knew it.”

She continued: “To my astonishment he said ‘I’m called Archie’ with a big smile on his face. I don’t know why he calls himself Archie but kids often play with their names and I think it’s lovely.”

The name Archie is believed to be originally from Germany – but in Scotland it’s a short form of ‘Archibald’.

George, whose middle names are Alexander and Louis, now has fans of the royals wondering if Archie is a family nickname or something he’s chosen for himself.

He is already said to have several nicknames.

According to reports, his school friends call him ‘PG’ – short for Prince George – which led to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge calling their son ‘PG Tips’ after the tea brand.

It is also claimed he is know simply as ‘Tips’.

And Prince William was affectionately called ‘Wombat’ by his mum Diana, Princess of Wales.

The Queen, too, has been called ‘Lilibet’ by her family, stemming from when she struggled to say Elizabeth when she was young.

And her husband, Prince Philip, reportedly calls her ‘Sausage’ or ‘Cabbage’.
