Police speak to Prince Philip for not wearing a seat belt

Norfolk police stepped in after seeing pics of the royal

Police confirmed they have warned Prince Philip after he was pictured not wearing a seat belt, just 48 hours after his car accident.

A spokesperson for Norfolk Police have said they have spoken to the Duke of Edinburgh, adding that "suitable words of advice have been given to the driver".

They said: "We are aware of the photograph. Suitable words of advice have been given to the driver and this is in line with our standard response when being made aware of, or receiving, such images."

It follows the news that Philip was involved in a "road traffic accident" last Thursday near the Sandringham Estate, where he lives with his wife, Queen Elizabeth II.

The crash occurred on the A149, with Prince Philip's Land Rover Freelander landing on its side after a collision with a Kia. He was given a breath test for alcohol, which provided negative readings.

Norfolk police confirmed on Friday: "The driver of the Kia, a 28-year-old woman, suffered cuts to her knee while the passenger, a 45-year-old woman, sustained a broken wrist. Both casualties were treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn and were discharged last night."
