Dan Walker REJECTS Piers Morgan’s Strictly challenge

It's the BBC v ITV!

The ‘rivalry’ between Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan, and BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker just stepped up a gear as the pair bickered across their live shows.

Over the weekend, Piers told The Mirror he would be up for a Strictly Come Dancing battle with Dan, saying: “I would seriously consider it if it meant giving Walker a lesson in how to dance in front of nine million people.”

And speaking on Monday’s GMB, Piers’ co-presenters Susanna Reid, Charlotte Hawkins and Alex Beresford questioned him about his “nemesis”.

Piers, 52, replied: “Who’s my nemesis? Obviously I can’t comment on rumours.”

He then told Susanna: “I know you used to work for the BBC, but you need to realign yourself.”

The journalist seemed jokingly offended by the public’s reaction to the story, saying: “After the rumours yesterday, people were like, ‘You can’t even move, you great lump of lard’ – was one tweet I read.”

But over on the BBC, Dan, 40, laughed the offer off during an interview with Strictly dancers Karen and Kevin Clifton.

Kevin said: “We’re hoping you might get a call..?” But Dan smiled, saying: “It’s not going to happen.”

It came after The Mirror reported on Saturday that Strictly bosses are desperate to sign the presenting pair after their Twitter ‘wars’.

The pair have been engaged in a ‘spat’ since Piers mocked his rival’s viewing figures – and got bested.

When Dan tweeted a thank you to BBC Breakfast viewers, Piers replied: “I just see your numbers falling every day mate… did you tweet this by mistake?”

Piers also called Dan’s colleague, presenter Carol Kirkwood a “little devil”.

Dan hit back writing: “Oi… I don’t mind you lying about your figures but lay off @carolkirkwood. She is queen. You are one of her subjects.”

Piers later tried another swipe at Dan and his co-host, Louise Minchin.

Next to a screengrab showing the wrong names during a technical fault, Piers wrote: “Imagine presenting a breakfast show where even your own staff have no clue who you are. 😂😂.”

Dan replied: “Imagine presenting a breakfast show where your replacement gets more viewers than you 😂.”

He included the audience figures from the last two weeks, where presenters Ben Shephard, Jeremy Kyle and Richard Madeley covered the sofa while Piers was on holiday.

Lord Alan Sugar then got involved, tweeting Piers – who he often spars with online – “I would pay £25K to charity to see this plonker in tight pants dancing and another £25K if he makes it past the first 5 weeks.

“@piersmorgan he is as agile as a pregnant donkey.”

Good Morning Britain’s Alex also took to Twitter to call for his colleague to join Strictly.

He replied to Lord Sugar: “With the greatest of respect he hasn’t got the balls @Lord_Sugar. Week 2 tops, and that’s only because you can’t get voted out week 1.”

Lord Sugar tweeted back, offering to donate the money to Great Ormond Street Hospital.

He wrote: “Yes Alex you are right. I hope the fellow at the BBC takes up the challenge then @piersmorgan is stuck for opening his big mouth. Force him to do it, embarrass him on @GMB @susannareid100 its up to £50K to charity.

“Come on Piersy you have opened that big mouth of yours now agree to do it. I am willing to pay up to 50K for charity to those poor kids at @GreatOrmondSt.”
