He called the idea "nonsense"

TV presenter Piers Morgan has slammed claims that the trolling the Duchess of Sussex receives is racist and insisted he gets more abuse online.

In a fresh rant over Meghan Markle, the controversial Good Morning Britain host called the royal out for her ‘hypocrisy’ in using private jets and dismissed claims her detractors are being racist.

Speaking on GMB, he fumed: “[Meghan] wants to be a celebrity princess, rather like Angelina Jolie would do it. Here’s the bottom line: you can’t be political and be a senior member of the royal family, there is too much hypocrisy that goes with that position.”

He went on to accuse her of “polarising” half of Britain and demanded to know if she plans to take it a step further by going public with her stance on Brexit.

Of the abuse Meghan receives on social media, he ranted: “I’m sorry, everyone gets abuse online. I get it 10 times worse than she does, I’m sorry.

“The other thing, this idea that it all stems from racism is nonsense. Media coverage has been negative because they persistently, last year, have been ranked hypocrites.”

Last month, radio presenter Jameela Jamil spoke out in defence of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and said she thinks the criticism is “because [Meghan’s] black”.

The Good Place actress, 33, also voiced her support for the couple’s use of private jets.

She wrote on Twitter: “Ugh. Dear England and English press, just say you hate her because she’s black, and him for marrying a black woman and be done with it God dammit.

“Your bullying is so embarrassing and obvious. You’ve all lost your marbles. It’s 2019.

“Grow up… And ALSO, it’s not safe for us to be on the same planes as royals or presidents you absolute muppets.

“They are prime targets for kidnap and sometimes assassination. It’s in the interest of us civilians to not be endangered by proximity to people in such powerful positions. [sic]”

Prince Harry broke his silence on the private jet debacle this week with the launch of a new global initiative called Travalyst that would aim to change “the impact of travel, for good”.

A post on the Sussexes’ Instagram page informed fans that Travalyst would be partnering with big names from the travel industry as it strives “to spark a movement to transform the future of travel, putting communities at the heart of the solution”.
