Piers Morgan has revealed he advised Roxanne Pallett to “go away and clear her head” following the Celebrity Big Brother controversy.
Former Emmerdale star Roxanne, 35, made headlines when she accused housemate Ryan Thomas of punching her during what appeared to be a play fight.
Piers, who knew the actress before she went into Big Brother, told The Sun that he advised Roxanne to avoid the limelight following the controversy and also urged the public to “calm down” and leave her alone.
The Good Morning Britain presenter said: “I think she made a big mistake, shouldn’t have done what she did, and I told her, ‘Go away, clear your head and come back and start again’.”
Piers added: “Other than do a full Mea Culpa and admit you were wrong, there’s not much more you can do than that than to say you were wrong and apologise. That was the advice I gave her which I think other people were telling her too.”
Ex-soap star Roxanne had claimed to be in pain after the incident with Ryan and requested to sleep in a separate bedroom as she didn’t feel comfortable around him.
Ryan, who apologised and was visibly distraught, was given a formal warning by Big Brother, causing outrage among his loved ones and viewers.
Roxanne then chose to quit the house and, after watching the footage back, acknowledged she’d made a mistake, issuing two public apologies to Ryan.
She said: “For Ryan, his family, friends, colleagues and everyone I’ve affected by such an enormous reaction that could have been devastating for him, all I can say is I’m devastated and I’m sorry.
“I need to say I got it wrong and I’m human and made a nasty, massive, horrible mistake.”
In the aftermath, Roxanne stepped down from her breakfast radio job at Minister FM and a planned Christmas panto role in Cinderella.
Her rep confirmed the actress will take a break from the spotlight for an unspecified period of time.
Meanwhile, Ryan, after winning Celebrity Big Brother, said he was willing to forgive Roxanne if that’s what she needed to feel better.
He said last night: “If she wants forgiveness and it makes her feel better, then I would rather give her that because I think she’s been punished enough by the public and the people around her.”
