Piers Morgan mocks Meghan’s ’empowered banana’ sex worker charity effort

He thinks she made it all about her

Piers Morgan has blasted Meghan Markle for opening sex workers up to ridicule after ’empowering them with bananas’.

The Good Morning Britain host lashed out at the Duchess of Sussex this evening for ‘putting on a performance’ and accused her of making charity efforts ‘all about her’ in his Mail Online column.

Reflecting on Prince Harry and his wife’s visit to Bristol charityOne25 – that helps sex workers with services such as a food, first aid and warm clothing – the 53-year-old described Meghan’s reported idea on how to offer support as “almost beyond parody”.

Piers also said he ‘could not believe what he was watching’ as he saw footage of Meghan writing positive messages of encouragement on bananas included in food parcels.

“Meghan Markle is not a stupid woman,” Piers ranted.

“So why did no part of her considerable brain realise that this gesture was, ironically, a massive banana skin to trip on?”

Explaining the background to the affirmative effort as being a project to encourage students in the US, Piers drew a distinction between that as “one thing” and the horrors experienced by sex workers.

“Giving prostitutes an ‘empowering’ banana after they’ve spent the night subjecting their bodies to often vile, sexually depraved men, is quite another [thing],” he added.

And Piers may have a point. One unidentified sex worker, reported to be among those set to receive one of the signed bananas, is said to have told The Sun: “People out here struggle to eat and sleep and she gifts us some words on a piece of fruit? She has the means to help us more than that. It’s offensive.”

Piers also insisted the “fawning coverage” ensured Meghan’s plans backfired because of the potentially comedic dimensions of the fruit.

He continued: “To sign them with the words ‘YOU ARE LOVED’ and present them to women who sell loveless sex to men was guaranteed not to empower them but to subject them to widespread mockery – which is exactly what happened as social media erupted with memes and cruel jokes.”

Dismissing the gesture as the “least useful” action the royals could take, Piers also joked the most recipients could hope for after feeling a moment of empowerment would be to scoff them and flog the skins on eBay.

Do you agree with Piers? Or should Meghan be applauded?
