Piers Morgan blasts ‘hero’ for taking part in I’m A Celebrity

GMB host could not contain his disappointment

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has taken a swipe at I’m A Celebrity contestant Harry Redknapp for signing up for the “humiliating” ITV series.

The 53-year-old presenter admitted to being baffled by why celebrities would choose to go on the show and face Bush Tucker trials.

“I don’t get why they do it,” he pondered.

Snorting at the notion famous contestants may be looking for a “personal challenge”, Piers did concede the show was a winner for the broadcaster – but made no effort to hide his disappointment at the involvement of his sporting idol.

“Thank God they do [get involved],” he said, referring to the celebrity campmates.

“Because it’s a ratings blockbuster for ITV, so it helps all of us.”

A pained Piers lamented: “But Harry Redknapp, one of my football heroes…

“Harry – you’re going to go and munch kangaroo testicles, really?”

“Really, Harry?” he squawked incredulously.

Arsenal fan Piers also managed to get in a knock on football rivals Spurs at the same time he was giving Harry, 71, some stick.

He ranted: “I thought managing Tottenham was humiliating enough, but this?”

The 18th series of I’m A Celebrity, hosted by Dec Donnelly and Holly Willoughby, begins next Sunday at 9pm.

EastEnders actress Rita Simons, X Factor star Fleur East, DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles and The Inbetweeners’ Emily Atack are among the other famous faces believed to be joining Harry in Oz for the show.

Also thought to be taking part as campmates are The Vamps singer James McVey, The Chase’s Anne Hegerty, Corrie’s Sair Khan and Hollyoaks’ Malique Thompson-Dwyer.
