Phil admitted he was a "nervous wreck"

Phillip Schofield has opened up about the scariest moment he has experienced during his career on TV.

Phil made the revelation during This Morning Live at the NEC in Birmingham, where he and co-presenter Holly Willoughby have been presenting for the past two days.

On Friday, Phil revealed to the crowd of fans that his scariest moment happened when he was presenting This Morning with guest presenter, Melinda Messenger.

He revealed: “It was when I was presenting This Morning with Melinda Messenger, I’m sure she won’t mind me telling you this.

“I told her, ‘It’s all fine. There’s nothing to worry about. I will look after you. There won’t be any trouble’. She said, ‘That’s fine.'”

Phil continued: “So we are getting counted down to the live programme. The stage manager said, ‘Five minutes’. [Melinda] wasn’t really listening and the clock says ‘four minutes, three minutes’.

“Then about two minutes before she said, ‘So that’s two minutes to live recording?’ I went, ‘No, it’s live!’ She went, ‘How do you mean?’ I said, ‘It’s essentially live television, when we speak people will see it on the telly. That’s it!’

“She said, ‘But it’s recorded?… we can stop and do it again.’

“‘No Melinda! (20 seconds), no it’s live (ten seconds). I thought, ‘Oh dear God!’ As the opening title rolled I convinced her there was no stopping.”

Phil said Melinda did “really well” but joked he was a “nervous wreck.”

Meanwhile, Holly also revealed one of her most nerve-wracking moments on TV.

She admitted she was so terrified during her first show on This Morning that she was hiding behind Phil.

“I was terrified and holding onto you [Phillip],” she said. “But I knew I was in a safe pair of hands.”

Phil and Holly are one of the nation’s best loved presenting duos and have become the face of daytime TV.

And, thankfully, it seems nothing is changing that too soon because the pair have ruled out ever presenting the show without each other.

Phil recently told Press Association: “It wouldn’t feel right. We think the same way, we work the same way, and our sense of humour works at the same speed – we laugh at the same things.

“So no, it just wouldn’t be the same. It’s like doing the show with my best friend.”

“I just don’t think it would work,” Holly added. “I can’t imagine doing it with anyone else ever, it would feel wrong.”
