Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby reveal Love Island irritation

We are SURE they aren't alone on this!

Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby have both admitted the amount of times Love Island contestants say “like” in a sentence is starting to grate!

On Wednesday’s episode of This Morning, the telly duo – who are firm fans of the show – admitted they couldn’t help noticing how often islanders slipped “like” into chat.

Coming back from an ad break, Phillip told viewers: “Like, earlier we talked about, like, Love Island. We are massive fans, but I’ve got to say, like, I’m starting to find the number of times they say ‘like’ a little irritating.”

Holly agreed, saying: “I was watching with my sister last night and we both said the same thing!”

Phil replied: “It’s, like, every other, like, word, like annoying.”

The pair revealed one This Morning producer had been given the task of watching Tuesday night’s episode to counter the number of times islanders said “like” on camera.

The answer? 219!

A montage of clips of contestants saying “like” was then played which really hammered home how often the word popped up on the episode.

Holly was stunned, saying: “That’s even worse than I thought! That’s so bad! What is that?! I knew it was bad. I didn’t realise it was that bad. When you watch it like that, it’s really bad.”

Phillip then chimed in: “The trouble is, once you get it in your head – ”

But Holly cut him off, warning: “Don’t you ruin Love Island for me!”

Phil replied: “It’s done now. You’ll count them!”

Holly said “like” was an “overused” word on the show and suggested one challenge should be penalising contestants every time they say it. Can you imagine!

Meanwhile, Holly and Phil aren’t the only Love Island fans to noticed the prevalence of “likes” on the show!

Show narrator Iain Stirling referenced it last night, while fans – including Hollyoaks stars Jorgie Porter and Kieron Richardson – have also been commenting on Twitter.

Love Island airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
