Peter Andre defends his remarks about being friends with his children

He says it's "narrow-minded" to shut down his opinion

Peter Andre has defended his comments that parents should strive to be friends with their children.

The father of four told OK! magazine he can’t understand why anyone would disagree with his remarks, calling that view “incredibly narrow-minded”.

Peter said: “We talk about everything. When I said you should be friends with your kids, so many people said, ‘That’s terrible’, but that’s incredibly narrow-minded.

“You should be parent first, of course, but if your kids can’t talk to you about everything then, to me, that’s not great. They don’t feel that stress or fear.

“My dad was so strict and I don’t remember being able to talk to him about anything, even though everything was done out of love.”

Pete’s original remarks were made in his New! magazine column last year, writing: “Being both a parent and a friend makes your children feel happy and also allows them to be able to talk to you about anything.

“But at the same time, they know the boundaries of what they’re allowed and not allowed to do.”

He echoed that in an earlier interview with The Express, saying: “I think it’s really important that kids can feel that they’re your mates, but still within boundaries. My parents had boundaries, there was no hanging out going to the movies eating chocolate and popcorn, it was a very strict upbringing.

“I want to be able do that with my kids but at the same time I’ve always said I don’t mind a child being spoilt but I don’t want them to be a brat.”

Peter is dad to son Junior, 12, and daughter Princess, ten, with his former wife Katie Price, and daughter Amelia, four, and son Theo, one, with wife, Emily.

As for whether there will be a fifth child… well, apparently not!

Despite saying in previous interviews he was keen to become a dad again, Peter told New! mag this week: “Looking back, I don’t even know why I said I want more kids.”
