He died in hospital four days after the brawl

A man has died after being punched and falling to the floor at a Butlin’s resort.

The victim, believed to be a 52-year-old man from Bedford, hit his head on the ground when another individual punched him in a bar fight at the holiday park in Bognor Regis, West Sussex.

According to the Metro, he was rushed to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton but died on Tuesday (June 18), four days after the alleged incident.

Police arrested a 31-year-old man from the London borough of Wandsworth on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

The man was released on bail until July 13, although according to the Metro, it was expected that he would be re-arrested and questioned because the victim died.

Investigators have already spoken to some witnesses but are calling for more to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Wolstenholme of Sussex Police said: “A fight at a holiday park, which involved several people, sadly resulted in the death of a man.

“The bar was very busy at the time of the assault and we believe many of those present would have witnessed the assault and the aftermath.

“We have spoken to some witnesses who were present at the time, but we would be keen to speak to anyone who hasn’t yet made contact with us.”

Speaking further, DCI Wolstenholme said coppers arrested a man “immediately after the assault” and confirmed inquiries continue.

A spokesperson for Butlin’s said the company is saddened by the “terrible news” and “thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends”.
