Series three of The Crown moves in 1960s and 70s and although Netflix is keeping its card close to its chest when it comes to plot, sources say that key events of the time – like the 1966 Aberfan disaster, and the first miner’s strike in the early 1970s – will be depicted.

It’s also said that the 1969 Apollo moon landing will also play a key part of the series.

As well as the storylines, more new cast members have been introduced.

Actor Tobias Menzies takes over from Matt Smith as Prince Phillip, Helena Bonham-Carter as Princess Margaret, Josh O’Conner from The Durrells plays Prince Charles and Emerald Fennell plays Camilla Parker Bowles.
