Hollywood couple announce separation after 11 years together

Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber have announced their separation after 11 years and two children together.

The Hollywood actors confirmed on Monday they have decided to go their separate ways.

In a joint statement they said: ‘Over the past few months we’ve come to the conclusion that the best way forward for us as a family is to separate as a couple.

‘It is with great love, respect, and friendship in our hearts that we look forward to raising our children together and exploring this new phase of our relationship.’

Naomi, 47, and Liev, 48, added: ‘While we appreciate your curiosity and support, we ask the press to be mindful of our children and respect their right to privacy.’

The couple, who never married, have been in a relationship since 2005.

Together they have two sons, Alexander ‘Sasha’, nine, and seven-year-old Samuel Kai.

News of the split came as a shock, as up until earlier this month the pair had still seemed smitten with each other.

They were seen hand-in-hand on the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month at the premiere of The Bleeder which they are co-starring in.

And if you follow them on social media, it would have been impossible to detect trouble was afoot.

A week ago Naomi posted a photo of her husband and son Sasha to Instagram as they went to the Emmys together, with the caption: ‘Dapper duo here… #twinning #crushingit #goodluck #raydonovan @lievschreiber #proudbeyondwords’

While Liev shared a besotted snap of Naomi three weeks ago in a dress showing off her legs at a party with the caption: ‘Ay dios mio…’

The two stars got together after bumping into each other at the Met Gala in 2005.

The split comes days Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt.
