Mum slammed for suggesting ‘awful’ and ‘ridiculous’ baby name for her daughter

One Mumsnet user said it'd be a good name for a teacup chihuahua

A parent has asked the internet for advice on a name she’s thinking of calling her little one.

Posting anonymously, the woman asked other users on Mumsnet if “Princess” would be a good name for her baby.

And it appears the vast majority thought it was a definite no-go, with many blasting it as “awful” and “ridiculous”.

One wrote simply: “Truly awful.”

Another told her: “Oh no. I’m sure it’ll lead to endless teasing all her life, I think she’d much rather you give her another name.”

A third wrote: “It makes me assume she’s going to have pierced ears, a mahoosive hairband and patent leather white sandals by six weeks old.

Someone else joked: “Unless you’re giving birth to a teacup chihuahua, its a no from me.”

“Ridiculous, and she will refuse to use it eventually,” said another user.

Others didn’t think it was a terrible idea, although still sided with the nay-sayers.

One responded: “If you’re looking for reassurance on the name you like, you’re not going to find it. Yes it’s very cute but children don’t stay as cute babies for long. They grow up and want to be treated as such.”

Echoing this view, another commented with a confused-face emoji: “Lovely on a baby, but as she got older…”

Baby name website Nameberry currently ranks Princess 741st on its popularity chart.

ED! readers will be familiar with it as it’s the name of Katie Price’s daughter with ex husband Peter Andre.

And according to reports several years ago, the now 11-year-old had grown to dislike her name.

Speaking to Magic FM presenter Jo Parker in 2014, dad Peter said: “Princess is telling me she doesn’t want me to call her Princess.

“And she doesn’t like the colour pink anymore, all of a sudden she wants everything blue.”

Around the time she was born, the Mysterious Girl singer revealed it was Katie who chose the name.

He told OK! Magazine in 2007: “Katie always loved the name Princess but everyone thought it was a bit over the top.”

But it was Pete who came up with the idea for one of Princess’ middle names, Tiaamii.

He explained: “I loved [the name Princess] too but I wanted to name her after both our mums.

“Then I just woke up one morning and thought, ‘I know! We’ll just put them together! If people don’t like it, that’s up to them.'”

Tiaamii is a mix of Thea, Pete’s mother’s name, and Amy, Katie’s mum.
