Mum blasted for plucking 15-month-old child’s ‘hairy’ eyebrows

She said she did it for "aesthetic reasons"

A mum has been criticised for plucking her 15-month-old daughter’s eyebrows to make them tidier.

Taking to Reddit for advice, the anonymous woman revealed she decided to pluck her daughter’s eyebrows for “aesthetic reasons”.

The woman said her little girl had a “unibrow” and she removed some of her brow hair while she slept.

The mum wrote: “I gave birth 15 months ago to a beautiful baby girl. She’s always been hairy. It’s nice in a way because she was born with hair on her head and she has really full eyelashes.

“But she also developed a unibrow. It was light at first. But over the last 4-5 months, it’s gotten fairly prominent.”

She continued: “For aesthetic reasons, I decided to pluck it while she slept. If she woke up I would stop. I managed to get it all off in a couple days.

“I didn’t really think of this as being a bad thing. But a fellow mum friend of mine (meaning a friend IRL [in real life]) stopped by for a ‘play date’ a few days ago.

“She’s an extremely observant person and she mentioned my daughter’s eyebrows. I was honest and said I plucked the middle while she slept.

“She had this horrified look and said she was surprised that I did that. I didn’t really know what to say, but obviously I felt a little insecure about my decision after that.”

The woman added: “I’ve talked to my husband and he says I’m overthinking this, but I don’t know.

“Honest feedback welcome, obviously.”

The post racked up over 1,000 comments and many people weren’t impressed with the woman’s actions.

One person said: “Wtf is wrong with someone who cares about their baby’s EYEBROWS?! Way to cement those self esteem issues nice and early, 10/10 parenting.”

Another wrote: “You’re seriously applying adult beauty standards to a child – a baby in fact. The kids unibrows make ZERO difference to her experience as a baby, but her mum pulling out her hairs one by one because she isn’t pretty enough is going to carry a lifetime of complications.”

A third added: “I’m honestly questioning if this is real. I refuse to believe someone could be so conceited that they could sit there and pull individual hairs out of their baby’s head over the course of several days.”

However, others defended the woman.

One person commented: “Actually I think it’s good. As a young hairy girl, I was teased by other children for a unibrow, upper lip, arm etc. Of course it hurt to wax, but some things have to be done.”

Another wrote: “I’m sure I’ll get down-voted for this opinion, but it’s your baby. If she’s not waking up, she’s obviously okay.”

A third told the woman: “You’re getting so much hate but I really think this is pretty minor, as long as you’re stopping at the slightest sign she’s waking up or it hurts.”
