Mom and daughter face incest charges after getting married

And if it couldn't get any worse, the mother married her son too

A mom has been arrested and charged with incest for marrying her daughter after divorcing her son.

Patricia Ann Spann, 43, and her daughter, Misty Velvet Dawn Spann, were charged with incest on Wednesday, September 7, after appearing at Stephens County district court.

Police discovered the pair married in March while conducting a child welfare investigation.

They later found out Patricia had also married her son in 2008.

The motivation behind the marriages is unclear.

Patricia told a child services investigator she’d lost custody of her children and they were adopted by their grandmother.

According to a police affidavit, Patricia reunited with her daughter, 25, and claimed she thought the marriage was legal because her name isn’t listed on her daughter’s birth certificate.

Investigators checked the certificate at the hospital and found Spann’s signature on her daughter’s original one.

A more recent version showed the signature of Misty Spann’s grandmother, investigators said.

The 43-year-old woman had previously married her son, whose name is not listed, in 2008.

The son filed for an annulment 15 months later, citing incest, the Associated Press reports.

The women — who wore matching Superwoman shirts in their mug shots — are each being held on a $10,000 bond at Stephens County Jail.

Oklahoma incest laws prohibit blood relatives from getting married or having sex with each other. The felony charge carries up to 10 years behind bars.
