Michelle Keegan has revealed she used her training as an army medic in Our Girl to assist with a stranger’s medical emergency.
The actress – who plays army medic Georgie Lane – told BBC’s The One Show she had been dining out when a woman at a nearby table collapsed.
She explained her intense Our Girl training meant she knew exactly what to do in the situation, and she jumped in to help immediately.
Michelle, 30, said: “Everyone always asks if playing a medic comes into your real life.

“Before I started filming last year, I was at a restaurant and we heard a crash. Behind me was a lady who had passed out at her table, her face in the middle of her plate.
“I don’t know why, but my instincts kicked in. I ran over, got her head to make sure she didn’t swallow her tongue and was getting her husband to talk to her while I asked for a full fat Coke, as I knew she needed sugar because her sugar levels were quite low.
“They came over with a bottle with a straw. I knew it could be quite dangerous to have a straw as it can get air into your throat, so I threw that away, put it in a friend’s glass and she started sipping it and came around slowly.
“I always say that before Our Girl, I would never have done that. I would have gone into a panicked state, but with the training I have, it gave me the confidence to do something.”
Michelle returns to screens for the next chunk of Our Girl episodes next week.
The new storyline will see Georgie in Nigeria on a humanitarian mission with 2-Section, following six months of compassionate leave after the shock death of Elvis (Luke Pasqualino) last series.
“She is now throwing herself into work,” said Michelle. “She’s definitely not over Elvis at all and you’ll see throughout the episodes that his death has really affected her.”
Michelle added: “She still wears his engagement ring around her neck, which was my idea, as she loved him so much and he was the love of her life. I thought it was a nice idea to have a part of him with her at all times.”
Michelle added that it was odd to film without Luke and get into her character’s new mindset.
“It was really, really strange. Luke and I started on the series at the same time together and it was so odd when he left. It was like a hole and I definitely missed him,” she recalled.
“We literally started the next episode the day after Elvis died. Luke left on a Thursday and on a Friday we started to film episode five.
“It took a long time for me to adjust as all our storylines were always based around Georgie and Elvis and the’will they, won’t they’ situation. So when he wasn’t there, I had to have a different mind-set.”
