Michelle Keegan opens up about “bad days” while working

Her military drama Our Girl returns to BBC One on Tuesday

Our Girl star Michelle Keegan has opened up about how she copes with working away from home while filming across the world.

The actress, who plays Georgie Lane in the military drama, appeared on Tuesday’s This Morning to discuss the brand new series of the show, which begins tonight.

Michelle, 31, revealed they are away filming in different countries for eight months out the year, and it can be tough being so far away from home for a long period of time.

But, the star said all of the cast “come together” and help each other on their bad days.

Holly, 37, asked the former Coronation Street star: “Do you miss home [while filming away]?”

Michelle replied: “Yes we do. Because we’re all together and going through the same experience, if someone’s having a bad day, we come together.

“We just have to get on with it, it’s a job at the end of the day. Luckily, we’ve got FaceTime.”

Last year, Michelle spent several months filming the series in Nepal, Malaysia and South Africa.

But filming also meant being apart from her husband Mark, who has landed a role as a presenter on Extra TV in the US.

She previously told Radio 1 breakfast show’s Nick Grimshaw that it’s hard to be away from her hubby but they FaceTime as much as they can.

Meanwhile, the brand new series of Our Girl begins tonight and Michelle has revealed what viewers can expect from the series.

Michelle said her character Georgie will be going to Nigeria with 2 Section on a humanitarian mission.

The star revealed there will be an abduction in a school.

She explained: “Georgie always follows her heart and never her head and she always goes against the army protocol.”

Teasing a new character, Michelle added: “There’s a new character called Bones and his character is very interesting. We’ve never had a character like him.

“[Georgie and Bones] clash straight away.”

Michelle also spoke about filming without Luke Pasqualino, who played Elvis Harte, and admitted she misses him after he was killed off on the last series.

Speaking about the final episode when Elvis died, she said: “We were in Malaysia when that got put out on TV.

“We checked Twitter and it was message after message of people breaking their hearts. We knew from day one that was going to happen.”
