Former Spice Girl Mel B has opened up about her battles with addiction as she prepares to enter a UK based rehab facility.
The singer is planning to enter the facility next month in an attempt to deal with her reliance on alcohol, and her PTSD.
Speaking to The Sun On Sunday, Mel claimed that the last few months have been a struggle, and that she’s realised she needs help.
“The past six months have been incredibly difficult for me,” she said.
Mel claimed that in working on her autobiography, Brutally Honest, she’d been forced to relive her past abusive relationship, and that she had struggled to deal with the trauma.
The X Factor judge said that she’s been ignoring how much she relies on alcohol to escape her feelings.
“I am being very honest about drinking to numb my pain but that is just a way a lot of people mask what is really going on.”
She said that the issues she has with alcohol and sex are only the symptom of the read problem and that she needed to deal with the cause.
“Sometimes it is too hard to cope with all the emotions I feel. But the problem has never been about sex or alcohol — it is underneath all that.
“I am fully aware I have been at a crisis point. No one knows myself better than I do – but I am dealing with it.”
Mel went on to say that she was hoping that being honest about addiction and PTSD would help others who were struggling to mask their own experiences of the conditions.
“I am speaking about this because this is a huge issue for so many people,” she said.
Mel divorced producer Stephen Belafonte last year after ten years of marriage, claiming physical and emotional abuse.
