Why Meghan Markle won’t be having a maid of honour

She will marry Prince Harry on May 19

It’s been revealed that Meghan Markle will not have a maid of honour on her wedding day.

Kensington Palace shared a bunch of new details about the royal wedding on Friday and revealed that Meghan will just have bridesmaids, who will most likely be children to keep with royal tradition.

The reason? According to a spokesman for the couple, Meghan couldn’t choose from among her pals.

The spokesman told the Daily Mail: “The bridesmaids and page boys are all children. Ms Markle will not have a maid of honour.

“She has a very close group of friends and didn’t want to choose one over the other.”

The top guess for Meghan’s maid of honour was her best friend Jessica Mulroney.

Others who were thought to be contenders were tennis champ Serena Williams, Priyanka Chopra and her former Suits co-star Sarah Rafferty.

But even though Meghan’s friends won’t be her bridesmaids or her maid of honour, they will still be involved in the wedding prep.

“They have been actively involved in helping her prepare for the day and will be there with her the day before in London,” the spokesman added.

“She will be pleased to have their support on the day but they have no official role.”

Kensington Palace announced on Friday that details of who will be Meghan’s bridesmaids will be kept a secret until the final week ahead of the wedding.

Meanwhile, the palace did reveal that both of Meghan’s parents will be attending the wedding and will have “important roles” on their daughter’s big day.

Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, will travel with Meghan by car to Windsor Castle, while her dad, Thomas Markle, will walk his daughter down the aisle.

The palace said the royal family will begin arriving at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle from 11:20am.

At that time, a pooled media facility will cover former Suits actress Meghan and her mum’s departure from the bride’s overnight location to St George’s Chapel.

Doria will then head into St George’s Chapel and Meghan will be joined by some of her bridesmaids and page boys, before heading into the church.

The palace said the ceremony will last around an hour and the newlyweds will then start their carriage procession around the town of Windsor.
