Meghan Markle reportedly celebrated 38th birthday at lavish £108k-a-week villa

That's one way to do it

| Updated:

Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle is said to have celebrated her recent birthday at a lavish Ibiza villa costing £108,000 a week.

The former Suits actress, 38, reportedly enjoyed a six-day stay at the luxurious Sa Calma villa with her husband, Prince Harry.

That’s according to Mail on Sunday, which reported that the complex houses seven bedrooms and a pool facing onto the sea, as well as a Jacuzzi, office area, gym and a staff of helpers available on request.

The Sussexes’ spectacular break sparked something of a backlash earlier this month when reports claimed they had flown their own chef out to the villa by private jet.

Critics questioned why the couple, who are vocal advocates of issues affecting the environment, would use a private jet so freely and accused them of hypocrisy.

Labour MP Teresa Pearce recently urged them to lead the way on climate change.

She said: “It’s up to all of us to cut our carbon emissions, and the number of flights we take a year. That is really important – and someone as high profile as that should lead by example.”

It follows warnings from the Duke earlier this year that members of the public need to “take action” to lower their carbon footprint and offset the dangers of climate change.

In March, he said: “Climate change is a humanitarian issue, not a political one, and one where we’ve been far too slow in waking up to the issues and acting on the damaging impact our ways of living are having on the world.

“We now have the facts, the science, the technology and the ability to save not just our planet but ourselves. You don’t just sit back and wait for solutions, you take action and create them.”

Harry has also spoken about helping the planet by only having two children with Meghan.

He told the September edition of Vogue, which was guest-edited by his wife: “I’ve always thought: this place is borrowed. And, surely, as intelligent as we all are, we should be able to leave something better behind for the next generation.”
