Megan McKenna has broken her silence following the tragic death of her ex Mike Thalassitis.
Posting a statement to Instagram on Monday, Megan paid tribute to Mike and admitted she’s in “complete shock”.
She wrote: “Sorry I haven’t been on social media but I’m in complete shock and trying to come to terms with this.
“I can’t believe I’m even writing this post. My thoughts and prayers are with Mike’s family. Rest in peace Mike x.”
Megan and Mike dated for seven months before splitting in July of last year.
On Sunday, police confirmed Mike died of suicide by hanging.
“Police were called to a park near Latymer Way, N9 at 09:28hrs on Saturday, 16 March to reports of a man found hanged,” they said.
“Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found a man, aged in his 20s, deceased.
“At this early stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious. The man’s next of kin have been informed. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Several of Mike’s Love Island co-stars have paid tribute to him, including his good friend Montana Brown.
Montana broke down in tears during Monday’s This Morning as she opened up about his death.
Montana said: “One of my friends texted me, ‘I don’t know whether this is true, but Mike has taken his life’. I tried to call him and his phone went straight to answer phone.
“There was just no reason for him to do that. I don’t know if it was a spontaneous decision… but it just makes me so sad that he had so many demons that he had to fight alone.”
Montana also revealed Mike had recently been reading self-help book The Magic after he was in a “dark place”.
Mike joined the cast of the third series of Love Island in 2017, and went on to appear on Celebs Go Dating in 2018.
Before his reality TV career, Mike was a footballer, playing internationally for the Cyprus Under 19 team.
