He told talkRADIO: “I think babies are generally really ugly, but mine, mine is beautiful. I’ve said it.

The presenter added: “It’s all very, very strange I have to say. Amelia is doing good – she suffered pre-eclampsia which is why I had to rush from the studio on Friday.”

Matthew said Cassady weighed five-and-a-half pounds, and Amelia is still in hospital with the tot.

The star also revealed the sweet reason behind his little girl’s name.

He said her name is of “Irish descent with the ‘a’, means curly hair” which Amelia has “underneath her straightened hair”.

It comes after Matthew tweeted last week expressing his excitement about meeting his daughter.

Just a couple of hours before she was born, he wrote: “Just received the following: ‘Ok we are having a baby this evening or basically As soon as you get here.

“‘You will be taken to the labour ward and given blue pyjamas to wear. Xx’ @mrsameliawright THIS IS HAPPENING!!”

Their baby girl was born at 6:22pm on Friday 25 January, according to The Sun.

Matthew, 53, and Amelia, 40, later confirmed to Hello’s website that “mother and baby (and father) are doing very well”.

The two have wanted a baby for many years, having gone through several heartbreakingly unsuccessful rounds of IVF treatment.

Matthew also told Hello that this seventh attempt would be their last if it didn’t work.

“It was our final roll of the dice,” he admitted.
