Mary Berry’s co-star has been dropped amid misconduct allegations

BBC's Britain’s Best Home Cook will have a new line-up

Britain’s Best Home Cook judge Dan Doherty has been axed from the show amid sexual misconduct allegations.

Dan, 33, who starred alongside Mary Berry and Claudia Winkleman on the BBC cooking show, will no longer be a part of the series following allegations that he asked a female worker at his gastro pub the Royal Oak to perform a sex act on him.

Taking to Twitter, the chef and food writer appeared to confirm the news.

He wrote: “In the wake of the recent newspaper reports, I’ve decided to step away from series two of Britain’s Best Home Cook.

“I loved my experience of working on the show and wish it every continued success.

“I want to say sorry. There are mistruths in what was published but I have made mistakes, mistakes I truly am sorry for.”

A spokesperson for the BBC told Eater London: “We’ll be appointing a new judge for Britain’s Best Home Cook to join the rest of the line-up. We’re looking forward to a new series which will be back on air in 2020.”

It was reported last November that Dan was barred from the pub after claims against the head chef. It was alleged that he had fostered a “culture of harassment at The Royal Oak”.

The Royal Oak in London’s Marylebone confirmed Dan was no longer working there, adding: “We will not be making any further comment about the reported incidents. Our focus is on the well-being of our team and business.”

The first series of the show finished in June last year with Pippa Middlehurst winning the series.

It is thought the search for a new judge is already underway.
