Eamonn Holmes rejects Strictly Come Dancing, prefers torture

Er, don't hold back, Eamonn!

| Updated:

Eamonn Holmes has rather bluntly declared that he will NEVER EVER do Strictly Come Dancing.

In fact, he’d rather suffer a form of torture than hit the dancefloor…

Bit extreme!

While interviewing Strictly judge Shirley Ballas on Friday’s episode of This Morning, the Northern Irish presenter, 57, made sure Strictly bosses NEVER contact him about the show!

On the subject, he stated: “Never ever. I would rather have my finger nails pulled out than be on Strictly. It would never, ever happen. I think it’s so tough, so horrible. I absolutely wouldn’t.”

Head judge Shirley tried to change his mind, urging: “Come on, Eamonn! You could do it!”

But he wasn’t having any of it, while wife Ruth Langsford quipped: “You haven’t seen him dance!”

Clearly Eamonn was feeling in a mischievous mood this morning, as he couldn’t resist taking a few swipes at Ruth’s stint on Strictly.

Introducing Shirley at the start of the chat, he joked: “Ruth [was crying] when she was booted off [Strictly] by people like you – people like you have ruined our Christmas!”

Laughing, Ruth advised Shirley: “Take no notice of him!”

Ruth appeared in the current series of Strictly with Anton du Beke, where they made it to week eight.

Eamonn may grumble about how much of Ruth’s time was taken up with training, but he was always seen proudly cheering her on from the audience each week.

And although he wouldn’t do it himself, he’s spoken warmly of how positive the show was for Ruth.

Strictly’s been wonderful for Ruth. She was having a hard time from the menopause, mentally and physically,” he told the Daily Record.

“Strictly has given her a new direction in life. It has reinvigorated her, re-energised her and reinvented her.”

He also said on social media after her elimination: “Thanks to the support of you amazing folk she had an amazing run with an amazing partner.

“I am feeling a lot of love for her out there but I am also looking forward to having my wife & our life back.”
