Magician Dynamo returns with new series after career-threatening illness

He's back!

Bradford-born magician Dynamo was the toast of the town after his stunning magic series for the UKTV network made him a household name.

But a career-threatening illness halted his progress until now – he’s set to star in a brand new series for Sky.

His new series – called Project 7 – will be shown on Sky five years after his hit series, Magician Impossible, ended in 2014.

His return to TV comes after a flare-up of auto-immune disease Crohn’s Disease, which causes inflammation of the digestive system.

There is no known cure for Crohn’s Disease, which affects an estimated 146,000 people in the UK.

Dynamo, real name Steven Frayne, alarmed fans last year when he revealed he had been suffering for eight months, after being hospitalised due to a bout of food poisoning combined with his Crohn’s disease, a chronic inflammatory bowel condition.

As well as affecting his appearance, it’s left the star with arthritis in his hands.

He told the BBC: “It’s definitely had quite a toll on my body. I’ve put on two stone, which is quite strange. That’s a side effect of all the medicine.

“I’ve put on a lot of weight, also one of the main impacts for me is it’s given me arthritis, which, for a magician, not being able to use my hands as I normally would…

“I’m working with a physio and doctors to find a way to get the right medication and the right treatment, so I can hopefully come back on stage and show you some new magic.

Sky says that the new series will take viewers on a journey across the globe to watch Dynamo perform close-up miracles, impossible predictions and unbelievable feats of magic that will have a lasting effect both on him and the people he interacts with.

“This show has been a passion project of mine for almost three years and represents a whole new approach to the genre,” Dynamo says.

“I believe that now more than ever people need a sense of magic in their lives so I can’t wait for everyone to see what I’ve been working on.”
