Love Island couple announce engagement after just a three-month romance

The pair found love on the show

Love Island’s Jessica Shears and Dom Lever are the first couple out of this year’s contestants to announce their engagement.

Dom, 26, got down on one knee and popped the question in London after just a matter of months of being together.

The pair met in the Spanish villa over the summer and their romance has been going strong ever since.

They made the announcement in OK! Magazine, with model Jess revealing: “It happened the night before the TV Choice Awards. We were staying in a lovely apartment in London.

“Dom filled it with flowers and had got us a bottle of champagne… I was grinning like a Cheshire Cat when Dom got down on one knee – he said afterwards that he had never seen me smile like that!”

Dom explained he planned to propose during a holiday abroad but didn’t want to wait any longer.

“If I’d waited I don’t know when I would have had time to do it because we’re so busy at the moment. It felt like the right time,” he said.

And the stars are already planning to tie the knot within the next year with hopes of exchanging their vows next summer.

Jess, 24, revealed: “We’re thinking next summer. I’ve been thinking about my wedding day since I was a little girl so I’ve got loads of ideas.

“We’d like to do it abroad, either in the south of France or somewhere in Greece like Santorini.

“We don’t want a big wedding, I only want our close friends and family there because, to me, that is what your wedding day is about.”

Jess took to Twitter to announce the exciting news to her fans.

The brunette beauty wrote: “So the news is finally out thank you to our friends and family for keeping it a secret for the past few weeks.

“@_DomLever may drive me crazy at times but he makes me the happiest girl in the world  I feel so lucky to have him in my life.

“People will say what they want about us but all that matters is that we are happy.”

The couple haven’t had the smoothest of romances following their departure from the villa.

Back in June Jess was voted off the show along with fellow islander ‘Muggy’ Mike Thalassitis leaving Dom heartbroken.

And shortly after rumours started circulating that Jess and Mike had slept together on the night of being evicted from the house.

A source told OK! Online at the time: “Mike bumped into us at the airport and was talking for ages.

“He said as soon as they left the villa, they spent the night together – not just once, but BOTH nights.”

Another insider added: “They came out of the villa and immediately went back to the hotel where they were both booked to stay.

“They had separate rooms but couldn’t keep their hands off each other, the sexual chemistry between them is incredible and they couldn’t deny their attraction to each other.

“One thing led to another and they spent the night in bed together.”

Despite the accusations both Jess and Mike strongly denied the rumours.

Jess tweeted to her fans: “Lol if you believe everything you read”, followed by a laughing emoji.

“Tune into Love Island Aftersun to find out what really happened Sunday at 10pm ITV2,” she added.

Mike was also quick to deny the claims.

But it seems Dom and Jess have put everything behind them and overcome the bump in the road.

Now they are happy planning their future and have even spoke about starting a family!

Jess told OK!: “We’re desperate for kids. I don’t think we’ll wait too long after we get married to start trying.”
