Louise Redknapp reveals why ex Jamie didn’t want her to be a WAG

She put their family first

Louise Redknapp has confessed that ex-husband Jamie Redknapp never wanted her to be a WAG alongside the likes of Coleen Rooney and Cheryl Tweedy.

The singer revealed that she kept her distance from other wives and girlfriends of footballers because Jamie didn’t want a “circus” around his career.

The 44-year-old mum-of-two explained that she kept to herself during their 19-year marriage.

Talking to the Guardian’s G2 magazine, Louise said: “I think Jamie, being that slightly bit more old school, didn’t want any of that.

“His sport is what comes first, no circus around it. So I just kept to myself.”

Louise was never part of the WAG group in the noughties, which saw the likes of Victoria Beckham, Coleen and Cheryl, who was then married to Ashley Cole, out and about together.

Former Eternal singer Louise took a step back from her pop career when she had children with Jamie. They have sons Charley, 14, and ten-year-old Beau together.

Her latest confession comes as she also explained why she decided to keep 45-year-old Jamie’s surname, despite divorcing him in 2017.

Louise, whose maiden name is Nurding, said the thought of having a different last name to her children really upsets her.

She said in her interview: “It’s such a mum thing, but the thought of not having the same name as my kids, I could cry thinking about it.”

She added that she may have to drop the moniker if Jamie ever gets married again.

The couple separated after 19 years of marriage, with Louise apparently saying she felt like a ‘Stepford Wife’.

Louise hasn’t ventured back into the dating scene since their split two years ago.

She’s been busy revamping her career. As well as going on tour with her new music, she is also starring in West End Musical 9 to 5.
