Lorraine Kelly shares pride in daughter’s “brave” decision

The television host is currently on holiday visiting her only child

Lorraine Kelly has shared her pride in daughter Rosie’s decision to work abroad and the difference she makes.

The television presenter, 58, told Prima magazine that while some people may think she’s brave for recently moving from Scotland to London, she thinks her daughter is far braver!

Rosie, 23, moved from the UK to Singapore to work for a children’s charity.

Lorraine said: “I guess the move [to London] is brave but what I think is braver is my girl.

“She was 21 when she moved to the other side of the world for work and is embracing a new culture in Singapore. She’s being an independent woman doing amazing things.

“It’s hard when children leave home anyway, but luckily her lunch hour is 6am for me so I can FaceTime her while I’m getting my hair done.”

Lorraine has been absent from her ITV morning show all week while she visits Rosie in Singapore.

She hasn’t shared any photos with her daughter while there, but did post a lovely snap to Instagram showing her enjoying a meal on a night out.

One fan told her: “Hope you’re having a lovely time with Rosie!”

Lorraine has often spoken of her pride in Rosie, telling Dundee’s Evening Telegraph in January: “I miss her like crazy but it’s given us a great excuse to go and visit her several times.”

She was left in tears on Mother’s Day when she was surprised with a video message from Rosie.

Lorraine couldn’t hold back the tears as she listened to the message, appearing utterly shocked the team had recorded it without her knowing!

She was visibly moved as Rosie told her: “Happy Mother’s Day, mum! Sending you lots of love from Laos. I hope [your dog] Angus gives you lots of cuddles.”

Lorraine responded: “Oh my goodness! How did you get her to do that? That’s so nice!”

She added: “Just seeing her wee face was so nice as you know I miss her.”

Lorraine, meanwhile, is adjusting to full-time life in London, after making the big decision to settle permanently in the capital.

She previously commuted from the family home in Dundee, where freelance cameraman husband Steve Smith lives, to London, where she records her ITV show.

That meant weekdays by herself in London and weekends with her family in Scotland.

But she and Steve made the decision to move permanently to London this year, citing reasons including wanting to downsize, and more work opportunities.
