Lily Allen speaks out about daughter’s horrifying accident

She's not impressed with the NHS

Singer Lily Allen has revealed that her youngest daughter suffered a terrifying accident in which she was impaled on a railing – and has blamed NHS cuts for the poor treatment they received.

“I called an ambulance and they said it would take half an hour,” she revealed about the accident that happened to her daughter Marnie in 2015. “It was a huge gash in a two year old’s neck.

“Eventually I hailed a cab and was holding her chin together with a piece of flannel.

“At the hospital I asked, ‘Where’s A&E for my daughter?’

“They replied, ‘Just take a ticket and take a seat’

“My daughter had a hole in her neck.”

Lily, 31, who was speaking to News Roast, said she didn’t blame the staff for the long wait that day.

“You can’t hold it against the doctors and nurses, it is not their fault.”

It’s not the first time that Lily has criticised the NHS cuts. She’s an outspoken opponent of the Conservative Party’s austerity measures.

When Marnie was born, Lily took to Twitter to complain that it had taken a week before they’d received a visit from a midwife.

“After speaking to the Brent midwifery team at 7 this morning, I was told to stay in all day and someone would be over to weigh my baby and do a jaundice assessment,” she wrote. “Waited all day, and nothing, not even a phone call.”

“I don’t mean to moan and I know how overstretched the health service is. But I can’t help but think about how mothers with less support, both financially and emotionally are meant to cope.”

Lily recently received a series of horrific messages from Twitter trolls about the stillbirth of her first child. Lily lost her son at six months in November 2010.

One person wrote, “”If you didn’t pump your body full of drugs you wouldn’t have miscarried.”

Lily replied: “I didn’t miscarry. I went into early labour and my son died from his cord wrapped round his neck.”

Shortly afterwards, it was announced that Lily would be taking a break from Twitter.
