Liam Payne admits struggle to find “place” after Bear’s birth

Singer spoke of how fatherhood can be difficult

Liam Payne has opened up about becoming a father a year ago and how it has changed his life.

The 24-year-old welcomed baby Bear with girlfriend Cheryl Tweedy, 34, in March 2017 and he admitted he initially struggled to “find his place” as mother and baby quickly bonded.

“A mother and a child is the most beautiful thing to watch, but they’re the closest thing ever – and you’re close, but you’ll never be as close,” he told #Legend magazine.

“So a lot of dads feel put out, in that sense. I didn’t really feel put out, but I was like, ‘Where’s my place?’ I was desperate to find out what I was meant to do – changing nappies and whatever else.”

The Stripped That Down singer said he soon realised he could be the most useful in the kitchen!

Liam explained that he would cook for Cheryl, who would then, in turn, feed Bear, saying it made him “feel useful, rather than being the guy who just gets handed him to change his nappy and make him laugh and giggle.”

Cheryl and Liam have chosen not to share pictures of Bear on their social media accounts, so fans have only had the odd glimpse of his fist and body in certain snaps.

Liam revealed he looked at lot like him at the start – to Cheryl’s annoyance, but that a year on, Bear is now “morphing into a lot more of Cheryl’s features”.

Looking to the future, Liam said becoming a father has made him more caring and hard-working. He said he’s determined to provide for his family which is why he has been so busy with his solo career in the last year.

In recent months, he’s been travelling the world to promote his new album as he strives to create his own career path following his success in One Direction.

He was away just after Bear’s first birthday as he was travelling to Japan – followed by visits to Dubai and Germany.

Just last month, Liam said watching his son being born was the “proudest moment” of his life.

“Seeing the birth of your child is the proudest moment you can ever have,” he told Popbuzz.

“It’s also the craziest and mixed emotions you’ll ever feel, it was just insane. I can remember every minute of it. A lot of (my memories) are blurry but that one is straight in there.”
