Kylie Minogue says she had a “nervous breakdown” after split from fiancé

Thankfully, she's feeling strong and good now

Kylie Minogue has revealed she was “broken” following her break up with fiancé Joshua Sasse.

The Spinning Around singer, 49, announced her engagement to actor Joshua, 30, in February 2016, but just one year later they parted ways.

In a new interview with The Times’ Magazine, the Australian popstar revealed she felt so fragile following the separation she feared she was having a “nervous breakdown” and escaped abroad with pals.

She said: “I just wanted to stop. I knew I needed to heal my … My physical system was compromised. I think it’s called a nervous breakdown.”

Kylie went to Thailand with two of her close friends for six days in a bid to “reclaim herself” and “get strong” again.

And, thankfully, it worked.

“I think I reacted pretty quickly,” she told the magazine. “I can take a nose dive pretty fast, but I won’t stay there long. I’m too practical.”

Kylie and Joshua announced their break up in February last year, with Kylie telling fans on Instagram: “Thank you for all your love and support throughout this recent chapter of my life. Thank you now for your love and understanding with the news that Josh and I have decided to go our separate ways.

“We wish only the best for each other as we venture towards new horizons. #thesunalwaysrises.”

Kylie has previously hinted she felt “fragile” following her separation from Joshua.

In an interview with The Sun last month, she spoke about how she threw herself into making her new album, using the music to channel her emotions.

“The end of 2016 was not a good time for me,” she said.

“So when I started working on the album in 2017 it was, in many ways, a great escape.

“I was quite fragile when I started work on it but being able to express myself in the studio made quick work of regaining my sense of self — writing about various aspects of my life, the highs and lows, with a real sense of knowing and of truth.”

Kylie’s new album – her fourteenth studio album – is called Golden and is released in April, preceded by single Dancing.

It’s a new sound for the iconic singer as the album was recorded in Nashville and sees her experimenting with country music.

She recently explained to Rolling Stone: “At the beginning of last year, when I gently meandered back into the studio, one of my longtime producers said, ‘if you can think of some sort of country angle or influence or feel …’

“For better or worse, I’m always happy to try anything. So I immediately said, ‘Sure,’ followed by ‘but what do you mean?’ Country has never played a part in my work.”
