Kirstie Allsopp will leave fortune to her kids but wants them to get jobs

She's keen for her children to explore their dreams

Kirstie Allsopp has said she’ll leave her multi-million pound fortune to her children but hopes they’ll still choose to get jobs and work for themselves.

The Location, Location, Location star told Prima magazine that she and partner Ben Andersen have been “fortunate enough to make a considerable amount of money”.

She said the money will pass to their children but she’d be “horrified” if they didn’t choose to make their own way in life as well.

“Ben and I have been fortunate to make a considerable amount of money and I want my children not to have to do that. If they want to be a teacher, midwife or research scientist I want them to be able to do that,” she said.

“The privilege of the money we’ve earned is that the kids can do what they like, but I’d be horrified if they didn’t work and wouldn’t give them a penny.”

Kirstie, 46, said her “dream scenario” would be for the kids to grow up and settle near her, so they could work locally while she cared for their children during the day.

Kirstie and Ben are parents to sons Bay, 12, and ten-year-old Oscar.

Kirstie is best known to many of us for her role as a property expert on the Location, Location, Location franchise alongside Phil Spencer.

She’s also hosted a string of solo shows for Channel 4 and will host the Handmade Fair at Hampton Court Palace in September.

In a recent interview with The Times, the star also touched on her family when asked the secret to a happy home life.

She said: “Other than separate bathrooms, which is the ultimate luxury, it’s all about kindness and gentle honesty.

“There are certain things I cannot stand — people not wiping the surfaces, for example, and leaving toast crumbs behind. So I’ve lined my children up and explained the few things I really cannot bear. Then it is about not expecting people to change. You have to be accepting.”
