Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have announced the name of their third child, born on Monday by surrogate.
The quirky couple are no strangers to criticism when it comes to their kids’ monikers, so it will come as no surprise to them to hear their new daughter’s name, Chicago West, has sent the internet a little bit ‘Marmite’, with fans either loving or hating it.
Reality TV star Kim revealed the name on Twitter with a link to her website and app, letting fans know Chicago had arrived on Monday at 12:47 a.m., weighing 7lbs 6oz.
Chicago joins big sister North, four, and two-year-old Saint in the crazy world of Kimye.
One fan compared the name to a pizza, joking: “I’ll have the Chicago West please.”
Another thought it would be a better name for a TV show, writing: “It sounds like a hospital or a soap opera. ‘Previously on Chicago West’.”
Others, including Paris Hilton, approved of their choice…
The name is believed to be a nod to Kanye’s hometown and a tribute to his late mother Donda, who died unexpectedly after complications following a plastic surgery procedure.
The couple explained to fans how they’ll shorten the name to ‘Chi’, pronounced ‘Shy’.
Kim also publicly thanked the surrogate and told fans: “Since we implanted my fertilized egg in our gestational carrier, our baby is biologically mine and Kanye’s.
“You can either choose someone that you know or you can go through an agency, like Kanye and I did.”
She continued: “It’s not for everyone, but I absolutely love my gestational carrier and this was the best experience I’ve ever had.
“Our gestational carrier gave us the greatest gift one could give. The connection with our baby came instantly and it’s as if she was with us the whole time.
“Having a gestational carrier was so special for us and she made our dreams of expanding our family come true.
“We are so excited to finally welcome home our baby girl.”
