Kieron Richardson and hubby Carl hit back after Ruth Langsford asks “unfair question” on This Morning

The couple welcomed twins last month

New dads Kieron Richardson and husband Carl Hyland appeared on This Morning to talk about becoming fathers to surrogate twins Phoebe and Chase.

But host Ruth Langsford put her foot in it after asking an “unfair” question.

Kieron and Carl, who married in 2015, welcomed their twins last month.

Ruth, 57, said: “Obviously you went with IVF, and you both donated sperm.

“But do you know which of you gave the sperm that made the twins?”

To which Kieron, 31, replied: “We don’t tell people because it’s one of the obvious questions people ask.

“We have lesbian friends, who are mums, and they always get people asking, ‘Who’s the mum?’

“They say, ‘We’re both the mum?,’ and they’ll go, ‘No, but who’s REALLY the mum?’

“It’s an unfair question.”

Speaking about the decision to use a surrogate to start a family Kieron said: “We thought about adoption and that’s something we will look forward to in the future.

“But we researched surrogacy and it’s something we wanted to do.”

Ruth then asked the stars if they will be keeping touch with the surrogate mother.

Kieron, who plays Ste Hay in Hollyoaks, explained: “We are taking her lead really.

“She’s done it before and had twins for sombody else and she keeps in contact with them once a year and maybe sees them near their birthdays.

“We speak on the phone with them now and again and we’re going to be very honest with them.”

Encouraging other same-sex couples to consider the same route they’ve gone down Kieron said: “Absolutely do it!

“Everybody should have the right to be a parent. As long as you’re fit and healthy and can give a child love.

“Just because of who you go to bed with at night shouldn’t determine whether or not you should be a parent. That’s ridiculous.”

Viewers took to Twitter to praise the new dads with one writing: “#thismorning @thismorning Kieron and carl will make for amazing parents those twins are so lucky.”

“Kieron & Carl you both clearly make FAB dads #ThisMorning,” another said.

The couple welcomed their daughter and son on May 22 and announced the exciting news on Instagram.

Alongside a photo of the twins’ hospital bands Kieron wrote: “Welcome Chase and phoebe rae!”

Fans were quick to congratulate the stars for their new arrivals.

One said: “Congratulations to you all! Lovely names.”

Another one: “Congratulations to you both, so happy for you.”

The soap star recently revealed an hilarious story about “accidentally” breastfeeding his baby son, who then nearly weed in his mouth.

Talking about the greedy tot Kieron said: “He’s a feeder, constantly wants food.

“And the other day we went down to get food and I had no top on and he started sucking on my little nipple and I’m like: ‘No! Chase! It’s not for you’.”

He added: “Chase has weed nearly in my mouth!”

Sounds like a right little character already!
