Kerry Katona takes swipe at Ant McPartlin over his return to TV after drink-drive arrest

Ant has returned to TV less than a year after his drink-drive arrest

| Updated:

Kerry Katona has said she believes it’s “so unfair” that Ant McPartlin returned to TV less than a year after his drink-drive arrest.

The Geordie presenter, 43, stepped away from TV commitments for the majority of last year to deal with his personal problems following his drink-drive conviction.

However, he’s since returned to work alongside his telly partner Dec Donnelly to begin filming for the new series of Britain’s Got Talent.

Kerry spoke about losing her lucrative deal with Iceland and said she believes if she would have been a man, she would have been forgiven much sooner.

The mum-of-five was fired from the advertising campaign after allegedly being filmed taking cocaine in her home.

Speaking in her New! Magazine column, Kerry said: “I [expletive] off Iceland when I got the sack back in 2009, but they had every right to ditch me from their adverts – I was filmed taking cocaine.

“I’d do anything to get hat contract back. Let’s start a petition to make it happen – I deserve another chance!

“Ant McPartlin went to rehab for drink and substance abuse problems and he was forgiven in less than a year, but it’s taken me a decade!”

Kerry added that people are quick to criticise women and mothers if they “go off the rails,” but if it’s a man in showbiz he’s “right back in the saddle”.

She concluded her rant by saying “fair play to Ant” but called the situation “so unfair”.

Last month, Ant and Dec were left shocked when they won Best Presenter at the National Television Awards despite Ant taking much of the year off.

However, while many fans were delighted to see the pair win the award, others felt Ant shouldn’t be accepting the gong.

But seemingly in response to negative reactions, the stars’ joint Twitter account retweeted a breakdown of Ant’s telly appearances, explaining to his detractors how he was indeed eligible for NTA recognition.

It said: “To those of you who are hating: Ant McPartlin hosted all 6 of the @BGT audition episodes last year & 3 of the @ITVTakeaway live shows, so he is eligible & they both deserve it.”
