Kerry Katona has urged Katie Price’s critics to “lay off her” following a stream of recent headlines.
The former Atomic Kitten singer became friends with Katie when they appeared on the third series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Here! back in 2005.
In a new interview with The Mirror, Kerry spoke about Katie’s recent decision to spend four weeks in rehab to seek help for post-traumatic stress disorder.
Kerry urged Katie’s critics to give her some space and not criticise everything she does.
“Everyone’s quick to jump on the bandwagon and notice all her faults. All I want to say to everyone is: ‘lay off her’. Why not pull each other up?” said Kerry.
“No one is actually going ‘what’s the underlying problem of why she’s got to where she is at the minute?’.”
Katie’s had a difficult year with her beloved mum Amy being diagnosed with a terminal lung condition, her marriage to third husband Kieran Hayler breaking down, and a romance with boyfriend Kris Boyson recently ending.
She’s also faced headlines about her financial situation, the state of her mansion and allegations of wild partying, including a video clip filmed during a hen do in Majorca showing her appearing to rap “I love coke”.
Amy confirmed over the weekend Katie would spend 28 days in rehab.
Amy told The Sun that although Katie can be her “own worst enemy”, she’s also been judged for years and subjected to “endless attacks” over everything she does.
Amy said: “She is constantly judged on her kids, her home, work, financial situation, the way she looks, how she dresses and what she does.
“No person can take this kind of pressure and not succumb to it.”
Katie has not addressed her rehab decision.
The star has not tweeted anything since August 28, when she shared several posts about the importance of disabled access at public events and restaurants.
Her most recent Instagram post was on September 6, when she shared a photo of her youngest children Jett, five, and Bunny, four, enjoying a dip in the hot tub.
She shares Jett and Bunny with third husband Kieran.
Katie is also mum to son Harvey, 16, from her relationship with Dwight Yorke, and children Junior, 13, and Princess, 11, from her marriage to first husband Peter Andre.
