Kerry Katona jokes ex-husband Brian McFadden’s new girlfriend is “too good for him”

She does make us laugh

Kerry Katona appeared on Wednesday’s Good Morning Britain to discuss life as a mum, befriending her ex’s new girlfriend, and how she believes her career was “destroyed” by her mental health diagnosis.

Kerry arrived on set in a bikini and TV presenter Susanna Reid complimented the star’s two-stone weight loss.

Susanna started to say that some celebs get a nip and tuck to help with slimming down, promoting Kerry, 37, to interrupt: “Oh I’ve had it all done, love! But I’ve done it myself this time.”

GMB co-host Piers Morgan then complimented the former singer and asked how she has become “a very different Kerry Katona”.

The TV star, who has bipolar disorder, said: “Going through a separation, being on my own, learning to love me, exercise, eating healthily. I’m off my bipolar medication.”

She blamed her childhood and fame for her previous problems, which saw her check into The Priory Hospital in 2007 and declared bankrupt twice in 2008 and 2013.

Kerry added that she does drink, but not often, saying: “It’s very rare I go out. I’ve got five kids – so it costs an arm and a leg.

Piers, 52, asked if the former Atomic Kitten singer would encourage her children – Molly, 16, Lilly-Sue, 15, Heidi, ten, Max, nine, and DJ, three – to enter the world of showbiz.

She said: “If they were passionate about it and it was their dream, absolutely follow your dream. 100%.”

Kerry, who has been married three times and is currently going through a divorce from third husband George Kay, said her career was “100%” ruined by her infamous, “slurred speech” interview on This Morning a decade ago.

Kerry said: “It’s the mental health stigma. It’s still a taboo really.

“I’ll admit I’ve done drugs in the past, I’ve done the drink, I’ve done all that. But that was my bipolar medication.

“And to this day, I’m still trying to get TV companies, producers to try and trust in me again – because of my mental health illness.”

Kerry also confirmed that she and ex-husband Westlife singer Brian McFadden, who she was married to between 2002 and 2006, are on great terms these days.

In fact, she thinks his new girlfriend is “too good” for him!

“Really well, we get on really well. He’s got a lovely girlfriend, Danielle [Parkinson], I’ll give her a wave. She’s too good for him!

“No we get on really well. It’s taken us a really long time to get there, and it’s not like we’re best buddies or anything, but I know if I pick the phone up, Brian will be on the other end.”
