Kerry Katona has social-media meltdown as daughter Molly quits the country

Singer says she's "in bits"

| Updated:

Kerry Katona has poured her heart out in a video on social media.

The Atomic Kitten singer, 36, posted a short clip to her Instagram page, in which she sits teary-eyed in near-darkness and begs her daughter Molly not to “abandon” her.

The 15-year-old, who is going to live in Ireland with her grandparents while she studies to be a surgeon, was in the room while the video was shot.

And although it’s meant to be tongue-in-cheek (we think), it’s still pretty heartbreaking.

The 49-second clip begins with a slightly dishevelled-looking Kerry telling the camera: “My baby girl having cuddles with Mummy tonight. I don’t want her to leave me!”

As she fights back tears, she repeats: “Don’t leave me! Don’t leave me, Molly!”

Off-screen, the teenager tries to reassure her mother, but Kerry sobs: “She’s abandoning me!”

The Cheshire-born star briefly manages to pull herself together, telling viewers: “I am joking… but I’m absolutely heartbroken.”

And then she’s off again, crying: “Don’t leave me, Molly. I’ve got abandonment issues!”

The video is accompanied by a caption: “Still a mummies [sic] girl. I’m in bits.”

And sympathetic fans showered the singer’s comments section with words of support.

One wrote: “Kerry, she’s not even my child and I can feel how painful it is. I can tell you just want to bawl your eyes out lol.”

Another told her: “Can totes imagine! Chin up!!!”

And a third soothed: “Awww Kerry, I’ve been there and it hurts like hell when they leave home. But stay strong – your bond is never broken no matter where in the world they live.”

Molly is one of Kerry’s two daughters with her first husband, former Westlife star Brian McFadden. They also have 14-year-old Lily-Sue.

It’s Brian’s parents who Molly is going to be staying with in Ireland.

Kerry also has three other children from her two later marriages.
