Kelvin Fletcher slammed for using his phone while driving

Don't Instagram and drive!

Ex-Emmerdale actor, Kelvin Fletcher has been in some rather hot water of late after he used his phone while driving.

Kelvin, 35, was filming himself on his phone singing while driving and posted the video to his 109K Instagram followers and people weren’t too impressed with the former soap star.

Using your phone while driving is now illegal in the UK and you can get six penalty points and a £200 fine.

You’ll also lose your licence if you passed your driving test in the last two years according to the Gov.uk website.

So, it’s a pretty serious offence and Kelvin didn’t seem to be aware that he was doing anything wrong while posting the video to his Instagram account.

Meanwhile, Nick Lloyd, who’s the acting head of road safety at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents exclusively spoke to The Sun Online about the incident and was keen to stress how dangerous being on your phone while driving is.

“In 2017, 33 people were killed and a further 431 were involved in accidents where a driver was distracted by using their mobile. It is vital that drivers concentrate at all times so that they can plan ahead and react quickly when things go wrong,” he told the tabloid.

“Those in the public eye such as actors, athletes and artists, who are often held up as role models, ought to demonstrate responsible behaviour behind the wheel.”

Kelvin became famous for playing Andy Sudgen in Emmerdale – a role he played for 20 years until he decided to leave the ITV soap and become a professional rally car driver.

He left the soap in 2016 and now drives a £200,000 supercar in his races after starting off as a rally car driver age 28 in a little classic Mini.

He ended up winning the championship and it seems like he wants to add more victories to his rally car driving resume.

ED! has contacted Kelvin’s rep.
