She insisted it was “not a reflection” on her marriage and said she loves Neil very much.

Neil, who is also a professional dancer on Strictly, has not spoken out about the incident, but was still wearing his wedding ring when he was pictured walking his dog after the scandal broke.

In a rather awkwardly timed interview released on Tuesday but conducted before the kissing pictures, Neil spoke about enjoying “bromances” with Katya’s partners.

When asked about the Strictly curse by Heat magazine, he said: “I have more of a bromance with her partners. I’m normally the one saying, ‘Katya, don’t be so harsh on them’.”

Katya issued an apology via Twitter after The Sun on Sunday printed the pictures and quoted a source saying “they were snogging like a pair of teenagers and didn’t seem to care who might see them.”

She said: “I’m so sorry about any offence or hurt I may have caused with my actions. I wasn’t thinking and it was a one-off mistake after some drinks. I love my husband and we are very happy together, this is not a reflection on our relationship.”

Seann, meanwhile, issued his own apology, saying: “I would like to offer my sincere apologies for my actions. This is no excuse but it was a one-off drunken mistake which I am truly sorry for.”

He was later dumped by long-time girlfriend Rebecca Humphries.

Rebecca, who had been cheering Seann and Katya on from the Strictly audience the day before the pictures emerged, posted a lengthy statement to Twitter confirming the relationship was over.

There had been calls for Seann and Katya to quit Strictly, but the BBC confirmed on Tuesday they will both dance on Saturday with a Charleston as planned.

Shirley Ballas on This Morning

Meanwhile, Strictly’s head judge Shirley Ballas appeared on ITV’s This Morning on Wednesday where he refused to be drawn into discussion about the kiss but did emphasis she’ll judge on the dancing alone, not what happened in the pair’s private life.

“I’m not a newspaper reader so I’m probably the last to know any information going on,” said Shirley. “I just think people get on with their job. I’m here to judge a competition about dancing. I’m not there to judge anybody’s private life.”

Her stance was echoed by former Strictly judge Arlene Phillips who told ITV’s Lorraine she felt it would be wrong for the judges to reference the kiss or have it influence their marks.

“I don’t think they should allude to it. Because whatever they do, whatever way they allude to it, they will be doing the wrong thing for somebody,” she said.

“We’ve had these difficult moments before. They have to come in and judge them on the dance. They have to be professional. They are hired as professional judges, they are hired to do that, they are not moral code judges. It’s about the dances, technique and storytelling.”
