Kate Wright reveals she had therapy to help her be a step mum to Rio Ferdinand’s kids

TOWIE star will marry the footballer soon

Kate Wright has admitted she had therapy to help her be a step mum to Rio Ferdinand’s children after their mother died.

The former TOWIE star met the footballer a year after he had tragically lost his wife, Rebecca Ellison.

She died of breast cancer in 2015, leaving behind their three children, Lorenz, Tate and Tia, now aged 12, 10 and eight respectively.

Kate has always been open about the challenges of becoming a step mum to the grieving children, and how she could never replace their mother.

Now the 28-year-old, who quit TOWIE to put family life first, has admitted she had therapy to help her through the difficult time.

She told the Daily Star: “I’ve had therapy… I’m all about understanding myself and the situation that I’ve come into.”

She added: “It’s hard to explain, but I have to be good to be able to look after everyone else. I love being in a family, I love being a mother figure, but it’s nice to have time for yourself.”

Kate is soon to officially become a Ferdinand after Rio, 40, popped the question in November 2018 while they were on a family holiday.

It is thought their big day is imminent after Kate, 28, recently jetted off to Mykonos with her bridesmaids for her hen do.

She shared numerous images from the celebrations with her 1m Instagram followers, showing the group enjoying soaking up the sun, and having their own pyjama party.

The hens chose colour-coordinating outfits for every day, including a neon theme, which Kate said was her favourite.

The events organiser handed over control of the hen party to her bridesmaids, but when it comes to the big day, she’s been holding the reins.

However, she told Heat magazine she hasn’t become a bridezilla – yet!

“I think I’ve been quite calm. Maybe I’ll become a bridezilla at the last minute but not anytime soon,” she said.

We can’t wait to see Kate as a bride!
