It’s just one joyful event after another in the world of Rio Ferdinand and Kate Wright.
Less than a week after getting engaged, the pair have been celebrating Rio’s 40th birthday – and Kate took to Instagram to share a hilarious throwback shot of her future husband.
“Happy birthday you old sod,” she wrote over a brilliant old school photo of the former footballer. She added underneath: “40 today” with a love heart.
She then posted a follow up that read: “P.S. I’m actually going out with a 40-year-old WTF??” and tagged in Rio.
Rio celebrated his birthday over on InstaStories, too.
He re-posted a series of birthday messages from footballing pals, including well-wishes from Wayne Rooney and Robbie Keane.
There was yet another throwback shot from the sports commentator, which he captioned: “40 years old today. I remember this day like it was yesterday!”
He also revealed an amazing blue, tiered birthday cake from his children, Lorenz, 11, Tate, nine and six-year-old Tia, which read: “Happy 40th Birthday Daddy.”
Kate, 27, also took the opportunity to slam a couple of recent headlines about the value of her engagement ring.
She wrote: “Not normally one to comment on sloppy journalism but wow… £400k ring… I don’t think so. That’s the price of a house.
“Where do they get this rubbish from?”

The lovely pair got engaged earlier this month on a romantic holiday.
The former reality star took to Instagram to share a picture of the proposal, from the rooftop of The St. Regis hotel in Abu Dhabi, surrounded by Rio’s children from his marriage to Rebecca Ellison, who died of breast cancer in 2015.
She captioned it: “The perfect end to our holiday … How could the answer not be yes❤️❤️.”

Rio posted the same image, with the words: “She said yes 💍 ❤️. How these 3 kids kept it a secret I’ll never know 🤷🏽♂️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.”
