Kate Garraway reveals kids haven’t seen dad Derek Draper for seven months

Says that a visit might be good for him

Kate Garraway emotionally revealed on today’s GMB (Monday October 5) that her two children haven’t seen their dad, Derek Draper, for six months.

Derek, 53, is still in hospital battling the after-effects of coronavirus and hasn’t been allowed visitors during his ordeal.

Why did Kate Garraway speak about Derek?

Dad-of-two Derek has been in intensive care since March after contracting the killer bug.

Much of that time has been spent in a coma, and today Kate revealed that Darcey, 14, and William, 11, have been unable to visit him.

“Derek still hasn’t been allowed, even though he’s no longer tested positive for the virus, to see… his children can’t visit,” she said.

“His mum and dad haven’t seen him.

What did Kate Garraway say?

Kate, who was discussing Donald Trump’s situation in the US with hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, went on to say that she believes that a visit might do Derek some good.

“I personally believe him having contact in that room could possibly be of great benefit to have a physical presence,” she said.

“There are children that have died with their mums and dads not allowed to see them.”

The trio was critical of Mr Trump, who was seen parading in an armoured car waving to fans, even though he’s still suffering from the virus.

Earlier today, Kate shared an inspirational message written inside the hospital ward Derek is being treated in.

It read: “To all beautiful/handsome creatures this is for you… Don’t give up on this year. Keep fighting for the good, keep showing up.

“Keep loving, keep giving back, keep being kind, keep being brave, keep on caring, keep trying new things, keep showing grace, keep on.

“The world needs you to believe in the good. 2021 is coming… hold on… smile.”

As a result, Kate said the message “spoke to her”.
