Karl Lagerfield’s pet cat Choupette ‘reveals’ she’s “in mourning” on Instagram account

The designer adored his pet, a red point Birman

Karl Lagerfield’s beloved pet cat is in “mourning” for her “daddy”.

As the fashion world grieves for the late designer, who died on Tuesday at the age of 85, so does his feline friend Choupette.

The red point Birman has been described as the love of Karl’s life, and his Instagram feed was filled with adorable snaps of the cute feline.

The cat became so famous in her own right, she even has her own Wikipedia page!

So perhaps it’s not surprising to hear that the pampered pussycat is missing her owner.

In a post shared to the cat’s very own Instagram account, Choupette’s Diary, she wore a black veil over her face in an arty black and white picture.

Alongside the mournful photo was written: “Thank you everyone for your words of condolence. With a once cold but now simply broken heart, I am going into mourning.

“I pray that your kind words and well-wishes will help me to put my best paw forward in my future without Daddy @KarlLagerfeld & as my own woman.”

Fans responded with messages of “stay strong”, “huge hugs” and “condolences”.

Creative director of Chanel and Fendi, the designer’s death was announced this week in a moving post on his Instagram page.

In a message to his 5.5million followers, a spokesperson said: “The House of KARL LAGERFELD shares, with deep emotion and sadness, the passing of its creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, on February 19, 2019, in Paris, France.

“He was one of the most influential and celebrated designers of the 21st century and an iconic, universal symbol of style. Driven by a phenomenal sense of creativity, Karl was passionate, powerful and intensely curious.

“He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy as one of the greatest designers of our time, and there are no words to express how much he will be missed.”

Choupette was gifted to Karl in August 2011, by original owner, the model Baptiste Giabiconi.

By 2013, Karl was so besotted with the moggy, he told CNN that he would marry her if it were legal.

He recently told Vanity Fair that he and his pet communicate with “the expression of our eyes”.

So famous did his beloved cat become that she was even emulated in the form of a limited edition plush toy modeled after her by the designer.

It’s believed that Choupette could inherit a large chunk of Karl’s £153m fortune.

When asked if he would leave anything to Choupette after his death, Karl told Numero magazine last year: “Among others, yes. Don’t worry, there is enough for everyone.

“She has her own little fortune, she’s an heiress.”
