Strictly Come Dancing’s Judy Murray reveals her first tattoo at 57

Tennis pro Andy Murray's mum has had the most unusual inking

Judy Murray has announced that she’s had her very first tattoo.

The 57-year-old, who is mum to tennis professionals Andy Murray and Jamie Murray, got the tatt to celebrate her new autobiography, Knowing The Score.

It’s not just some little floral design though, no.

It’s a spider! And it’s placed on the nape of her neck.

Talking to the Telegraph, the brave Glasgow-born mum said: “I’ve always wanted a tattoo and a spider seemed perfect.

“I wanted it somewhere I couldn’t see it; just knowing it’s there is enough.”

The spider represents something very sentimental for the author though.

It is a tribute to Robert the Bruce’s indefatigable spider, who refuses to accept failure and inspired him to “try, try and try again”.

The inking also stands for her own personal efforts to help her sons achieve their dreams of becoming tennis stars.

Her book shares these details, and how she persevered. “I wrote this book to share my experience,” she said.

“There is no manual out there for parents to help them negotiate this path… Individual sports are a real slog and you have to pay for everything yourself; that’s how I learned how to do tax returns in three countries, trained as a massage therapist and took a course in media management. We just didn’t have the money for professionals.”

Her hard work most certainly paid off as son Andy, 30, was knighted earlier in the year AND has three Grand Slam trophies, two Olympic gold medals, two Wimbledon titles, and a David Cup.

Jamie, 31, also has the Davis Cup, as well as three Grand Slam wins, plus an OBE.

Judy doesn’t like watching her boys play though.

“I can’t bear to watch, even on television. I don’t listen to the radio either; it’s too stressful. Instead, I clean the house, starting with the bathroom and I just scrub and polish until it’s all over. Then I will turn on my phone to find out the result.”

The former tennis pro is appearing on The One Show on Thursday evening’s show to talk about her new book.

Also announced was none other than Ozzy Osbourne!

She replied to a tweet detailing his appearance on the BBC evening chat show with an embarrassed emoji.
