“It’s funny, we’ve never been friends. We’ve not been to each other’s houses,” John, who has been a judge on the show with Gregg for 12 years, has said.

“If we go away to somewhere like South Africa, we do things separately.

“If we do go out for a drink, I’ll invariably be at one end of a big old table and he’ll be at the other.”

But we’re not entirely sure we actually believe what John says, as not only was he Gregg’s best man at his wedding last summer, Gregg spoke about how well the pair of them get on off camera when he appeared on Lorraine.

“I have a very close relationship with John,’ Gregg revealed and went on to admit that during his time on Strictly Come Dancing in 2014 John was his constant go-to when he was feeling stressed.

“I didn’t particularly enjoy Strictly,” he explained. “I phoned John in tears and said I was having a tough time,”

“People don’t realise how close we are – he was my best man – he’s close to me 7/8 months of the year. What’s great about the partnership is that if one of us is down the other perks us up.

‘We’re very close to each other physically and emotionally. We trust each other.”

But just like any mates, John and Gregg do have occasional spats.

‘We’ve had a couple of stand-offs over the years,” John told the Mirror. “I’ve just had to walk away from him.

“Once, we had a bit too much to drink and filming got called off.

“We ended up having a massive fight about one of the contestants, and he got really stubborn – it was ridiculous.”
