Jesy Nelson slammed online for dancing to R. Kelly cover song

It didn't impress fans

Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson has come under fire after posting a video of herself dancing to a song by R Kelly.

The singer posted a series of videos to Instagram Stories, documenting a night out with pals, including one that featured a cover band performing R. Kelly’s 2002 hit Ignition (Remix).

R Kelly is facing multiple accusations of sexual abuse, including the claim that he isolates women, some of whom are underage, taking complete control of their lives.

The singer also allegedly married R&B star Aaliyah when she was just 15.

Fans have taken to Twitter to object to Jesy’s video, with some taking it as tacit support for R. Kelly as he faces up to the allegations.

“Jesy Nelson supports R. Kelly… I take back every nice thing I have ever said about her and any time I have ever defended her fugly ass. Bye,” one fan tweeted.

“Kind of funny how little mix likes to show that they support women and they’re all about empowering women while miss. Jesy nelson is bumping to R. Kelly, an assaulter to many women. Both minor and legal ladies. @LittleMix kick Jesy out of the band,” said another.

“Yikes first Jesy nelson posts a video of her white friend singing the n word and now a video of her bopping to R. Kelly? We stan little mix but she needs to either educate herself or delete her account,” another fan said.

There is no suggestion that Jesy even knew it was an R. Kelly song originally, however.

The incident comes soon after Jesy drew criticism for sharing a clip of a friend of hers using the n-word while singing along to a Chris Brown song.

Accusations of R. Kelly’s inappropriate relationships with young women date back for years, and include a 2002 arrest on child pornography charges.

In 2017 Buzzfeed investigated claims that he was preying on young fans, and brainwashing them to join what parents of his victims have called a “cult”.

Most recently, a six-part documentary series called Surviving R. Kelly was released by Lifetime in early January, detail the claims that have been made against him.

He has denied them.
