Jeff Brazier keeps Jade Goody’s memory alive with poignant message

He responds to Scarlett Moffatt's tweet

There have been some exciting developments in Jeff Brazier’s life over the past few months.

The TV presenter, 38, and his partner Kate Dwyer announced towards the end of last year that they’d got engaged and will be tying the knot this coming October.

And just before Christmas, Kate shared a lovely photo on Instagram of the couple posing with Jeff’s two teenage sons, showing that they’re now one big, happy family.

However, no matter how content he is in his new life, there’s one person Jeff will never forget – his late former partner and the mother of those two boys, Jade Goody. And to prove it, he posted a poignant tweet about her legacy yesterday.

Jade died of cervical cancer in 2009. And although she and Jeff had gone their separate ways five years earlier, her passing left him – and their two sons, Freddie and Bobby – devastated.

So it’s hardly surprising that when Scarlett Moffatt posted a tweet encouraging women to go for a smear test, it struck a chord with the Essex-born star.

The former I’m A Celebrity winner told her fans: “1 in 4 women do not go for their smear test. Please, ladies, it’s 30 seconds of slight discomfort and it can save your life!!! 30 seconds every 3 years!!

“It’s no worse than an eyebrow wax & it’s definitely less painful than an eyebrow thread, I promise.”

And Jeff backed up the Geordie star’s campaign with an emotional tweet of his own.

He wrote: “Fear of finding out doesn’t just occasionally lead to irreversible consequences, it can also leave the ones you love totally heartbroken in your absence.

“If people won’t do it for their own health, do it for those that love you.”

Well, that sentiment clearly tugged at Scarlett’s heartstrings, because she later replied with four ‘heart’ emojis.

Jade had been vocal in raising awareness about the importance of cervical screening, with BBC News reporting after her death that doctors had seen a huge rise in women booking appointments.

Earlier this month, Jeff revealed that his and Jade’s two boys will be best men at his wedding.

He told The Mirror: “They are so excited and have already been working on their speeches.

“It’s going to be the most emotional moment I’ve ever experienced. It will be a recognition of everything we’ve been through and how strong we are now.”
